5.7 Baby massage oil – Oil is NOT recommended for babies younger than 4-6 weeks old because their skin is still developing. One 50ml bottle of fractionated coconut oil or grapeseed oil (subject to availability) will be provided as part of our baby massage course to be used on babies from 6 weeks old, if you so wish. Both of these types of oils are safe for baby’s delicate skin and are edible (as we know babies’ hands often go in their mouths), however a patch test is required before full use which is the parent/carer’s responsibility. To carry out the patch test, a tiny amount of the oil is to be placed on the inside of baby’s wrist and monitored by parents/carers for 24 hours. It is the parent/carer’s choice to use oil or not for babies 6+ weeks old. If parents/carers are providing their own oil during sessions, it must NOT have any nut ingredients and a patch test must also be carried out before full use.
